Ubuntu 21.04 “Hirsute Hippo” Release With GNOME 40 Feature

According to report, Ubuntu developers team after successfully released Ubuntu 20.10 with codename “Groovy Gorilla” as latest version of Ubuntu, now they are working on the development of next Ubuntu version i.e., Ubuntu 21.04 with codenamed “Hirsute Hippo”.

Ubuntu 21.04 with “Hirsute Hippo” developers is trying to release next Ubuntu version with ‘HH’ series to succeed over the ‘GG’ series with “Groovy Gorilla”. For those who are not aware, Ubuntu 20.10 with codenamed “Groovy Gorilla” in ‘GG’ series is the latest Ubuntu version that brings a lot of new elements to Respberry Pi, Desktops and servers.

Ubuntu 20.10 enables the developers to test, experiment and develop with full cloud capabilities using “Raspberry Pi” that is great especially for AI/ML enthusiasts. This version also supports LXD 4.6 and MicroK8s 1.19 for strong micro clouds, distribution oriented infrastructures, small clusters of servers aimed at VMs and Kubernetes for remote and branch offices.

As per traditional Ubuntu codename scheme that takes the form “Adjective Animal” in ‘AA’ series, developers are planning to release next version of Ubuntu as Ubuntu 21.04 in ‘HH’ series with “Hirsute Hippo”, successor of ‘GG’ series with “Groovy Gorilla” codenamed for Ubuntu 20.10 version.

However, two separate Ubuntu versions has already been released in ‘HH’ series including Ubuntu 5.04 in 2005 and Ubuntu 8.04 LTS in 2008 with codenamed “Hoary Hedgehog” and “Hardy Heron” respectively. In other words, Ubuntu 21.04 is third version with ‘HH’ series codenamed.

The word ‘Hisute’ is also known as ‘Hairy’ means having a lot of hair on the face or body and the word ‘Hippo’ is the short form of ‘Hippopotamus’. The development of Ubuntu 21.04 “Hirsute Hippo” works in progress and has already started with addition of “Python 3.9” as supported “Python 3” version.

As per Ubuntu 21.04 release schedule, the “Beta” version will be available on 1st April 2021 and final stable version will release on 22nd April 2021 after reaching the final freeze millstone on 15 April next year.

It is expected that Ubuntu 21.04- next version of Ubuntu will have support of next version of GNOME desktop environment i.e., GNOME 40 feature in-built. At the moment, we have to wait for Ubuntu 21.04 “Hirsute Hippo” release. For any suggestions or queries, please write on comment box below.
