MidnightBSD 2.0 Released with Updated Core Components, Enhancements
According to report, MidnightBSD 2.0 Released with several System improvements along with security patches and big fixes. It is another “FreeBSD-Derived Distribution” belongs to BSD family which has updated core components like LLVM 8.0.1, ELF ToolChain r3614, OpenSSL 1.0,02u parallel mounting support for ZFS, and Network Firmware.
This new OS updated other functionalities to add new features including sockstat, cpuset, ipfw and ugidfw utilities to support jail names, last and lastlogin utility to support libxo, and fdisk utility to support sectors larger than 2048 bytes.
Furthermore, the “Bhyve Hypervisor” supports AMD processors with SVM and AMD-V hardware extensions, virtio_console, PS/2 scan codes for NumLock, ScrollLock, and numerical keypad keys. In security terms, MidnightBSD 2.0 Released with upgraded ping utility. This utility update could helps to drop privileges and protecting against malicious network packets by using Capsicum framework.
This new Operating System update also comes with updated third party-software including new Perl 5.32.0, libarchive 3.4.2, Lua Loader, zlib/1.2.11, Sqlite3 3.32.2, SVN 1.13.0, file 5.37 and pcap 1.9.0. On other hand, MidnightBSD developer team has fixed several known issues in its previous version and update with 2.0 version release with several bug fixes, new features and enhancements.
List of some other enhancements with MidnightBSD 2.0 update:
- Addition of smartpqi driver to support Microsemi SCSI controllers
- cm and fpa drivers marked as deprecated
- iwm driver imported from OpenBSD to support for Intel 3160/7260/7265 wireless chipsets
- Support for Microsoft Hyper-V Generation 2 virtual machines
- Support for displaying VPD for PCI devices via pciconf
- MidnightBSD 2.0 update also fixed boot issues with Intel Apollo Lake CPUs
However, MidnightBSD development team detected some bugs with UEFI booting on AMD64 in stable version of MidnightBSD i.e., version 2.0 and result in, the development team is working toward resolving the issues and stated that new version 2.0.1 will be release with fixing the UREFI support.
